Mission Statement
Statement of Purpose The Yonkers Public Library is committed to serving the community and fostering the personal growth of all its citizens. We encourage a love of reading among children, and support people of all ages in pursuits involving lifelong learning and the enrichment of leisure time. The Library seeks to address the needs and interests of our patrons by providing varied information resources, popular materials, up-to-date technology, expert guidance and a well-rounded program of community activities. History
The Yonkers Public Library was established in 1893 to serve the citizens of the City of Yonkers. In 1903 the "Carnegie" library (pictured on left) was built with a $50,000 donation from Andrew Carnegie. There are currently three branches; the Riverfront Branch in downtown Yonkers, the Grinton I. Will Branch on Central Avenue and the Crestwood Branch in the Crestwood section of the city.
Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees of the Yonkers Public Library serves as the voice of our community in the Library.The policies and practices of the Library are set and overseen by the Board, and the Library Director is appointed by the Board. The seven members of the Board are appointed to five year terms by the Board of Education. The Trustees are:

Friends of the Library
The Yonkers Public Library has two Friends groups: Friends of the Yonkers Public Library and Friends of the Crestwood Library. Through fund raising and book sales, Friends sponsor special programs and donate books, furnishings, etc., which the Library's operating budget cannot provide.
