Yonkers Public Library's Riverfront Art Gallery hosts a pre–celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month on Thurs., Sept. 7 with an opening reception of its new exhibit Across Imaginary Boundaries. Featuring work by 18 artists, this exhibit is curated by Haifa Bint-Kadi and will run from September 7, 2023 - January 18, 2024.

Through photography, printmaking, painting, ceramics, sculpture and video, Across Imaginary Boundaries brings together artists from these unique regions of the Caribbean diaspora that have created new narratives based in adaption and the multitude of experiences, and art that explore representation, the recovery of ancestral knowledge and connections to nature. 

Within the bounty and beauty of the many cultures of the Caribbean is a shared history plagued in colonization and oppression across geographies. What does it mean to explore identity and place within the foregrounding of this cultural backdrop and in the realm of contemporary art? Artists in this exciting and dynamic exhibit explore a diverse range of artistic production rooted in diasporic identity across the Caribbean while celebrating new modes of thinking about shifting identities, place and home.
