Event Details

Join Prof Val Franco as we explore Native American culture through art this month. We’ll take a much deeper look at the culture and message of Native American society by going beyond the archival photographs taken by Edward S. Curtis a century ago. Some of the most influential artists we’ll cover include Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, who works with line, form, color, and texture; and Wendy Red Star, born and raised on an Apsaalooke (Crow) Reservation in Montana. Her work is often humorous and surreal, forcing us to break down stereotypical images associated with Native Americans for generations.
