During the Harlem Renaissance of the early 20th century, the Harlem neighborhood in New York City became a Black cultural mecca and a social & artistic explosion resulted. We will look at three artists who were working at the height of this time: William H. Johnson, Romaire Bearden, and Jacob Lawrence. It was a literary, artistic, and intellectual movement that kindled a new black cultural identity, and encouraged a new appreciation of folk roots and culture.
Done in Collaboration with the Greenburgh, Tuckahoe, Dobbs Ferry, and Pound Ridge Libraries.
