The Yonkers Public Library is committed to providing a smoke-free environment for both the public and the staff. To reach this goal, the Library has updated its no-smoking policy to comply with the amended New York State Clean Indoor Air Act. effective 7/24/03 (Public Health Law, Article 13-E) and the City of Yonkers Clean Indoor Air Policy, revised 10/3/14 (Policy No. G1).
Smoking shall be defined as the burning of a lighted cigar, cigarette, pipe or any other matter or substance that contains tobacco or use of an electronic cigarette (e-cig ore cigarette), personal vaporizer (PV) or electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) or any other battery-powered vaporizer which produces a mist rather than cigarette smoke.
Smoking, as defined above, is prohibited in all City buildings, including Library branches, adjoining property, and library vehicles. This prohibition shall apply to all Library employees, volunteers, contractors and consultants. It also applies to all patrons and other visitors to the Library.
"No Smoking' signs, or the international "No Smoking" symbol, shall be prominently posted and properly maintained in all Library buildings and vehicles.
Department heads shall be responsible for the implementation of the policy within their individual areas. Enforcement of this policy is the responsibility of all supervisors.
