Yonkers Public Library (YPL) is a proud supporter of Yonkers' thriving art scene and we're pleased to host several Yonkers Arts Weekend 2023 events at Riverfront Library this Saturday, May 20th.
Riverfront Atrium
This year, the Yonkers Public Schools' (YPS) Arts Expose returns to the Riverfront Library atrium. It features artwork from students at curated by YPS art teachers across 39 schools.
The atrium will also host a number of hands-on art workshops and interactive displays from professional artists from 11am-6pm, including:
- A photo booth with the backdrop of "Flow Like Water", designed by Luisa Baptista (@luisa_vibes)
- Four professional portrait artists from DrawnTogetherNYC (www.drawntogethernyc.com) will provide FREE live sketching
- Artist & Teacher Stefano Luigi Guida (@a.huge.aardvark) will host a Cardboard Creations workshop for children grades K-12
- A Scribble Art Workshop (www.scribbleartworkshop.com)
Riverfront Auditorium
The Riverfront Library auditorium will host the YPS Student Film Festival "Yonkers: My City, My Home" in partnership with Great Point Studios and Lionsgate from 10am-4pm.
"The Cove" (2nd Floor)
Award-winning Storyteller, April Armstrong (aprilarmstrong.squarespace.com) and her jazzy friends, Mario E. Sprouse (keyboard) and Napoleon Revels-Bey (drums), will tell stories and sing songs for this family-friendly program from 12-1pm.
Riverfront Community Room (2nd floor)
There will be more arts workshops on the second floor Community Room from 11am-6pm, including:
- Brooklyn Craft Company (www.brooklyncraftcompany.com) will teach visitors how to make DIY Macramé Keychains
- Guttenberg Arts (www.guttenbergarts.org) will offer a “Monoprint Demo” workshop
- Stems Brooklyn (www.stemsbrooklyn.com) will provide a flower arrangement workshop
Riverfront Art Gallery (4th floor)
Finally, stop by the fourth floor Riverfront Art Gallery for a mosaic workshop from YPL's own Haifa Bint-Kadi (@haifabintkadi). Participants will learn how to shape ceramic pieces into a flower shape and apply to a wood plaque to take home and enjoy.
