Going Nuts With Holiday Recipes

Since the holidays are right around the corner, this is the perfect opportunity to share some nutty recipes. We believe that food is one of the best ways to connect with our community. This is the season of family gatherings that revolve around food. This year we decided to ramp up the nutritional value with omega-3s. 

Please join us on Thursday, November 21st at 11:00 AM for our program "Going Nuts with Holiday Recipes". Discover creative ways to incorporate healthy walnuts into easy meals. 

The menu consists of delicious pesto sauce, walnut coffee cake, and tea. Grab and Goes with the recipes and walnuts will be available at all three branches following the program while supplies last. 

BASIC PESTO 

INGREDIENTS 

● 2 cups fresh basil leaves (no stems) 

● 2 tablespoons pine nuts (or walnuts) 

● 2 large garlic cloves 

● ½ cup extra-virgin olive oil 

● ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan 

Step 1 

Combine basil leaves, pine nuts (or walnuts) and garlic in a food processor and process until very finely minced.

Step 2 

With the machine running, slowly dribble in the oil and process until the mixture is smooth. 

Step 3 

Add the cheese and process very briefly, just long enough to combine. Store in refrigerator or freezer. 

Delicious over pasta, chicken, fish, or as a sandwich spread.
