La Biblioteca Pública de Yonkers (YPL) está suscripta a docenas de servicios en línea y bibliotecas de contenido, que van desde servicios de transmisión de video hasta bases de datos de investigación y aplicaciones de aprendizaje de idiomas. Normalmente, acceder a estos recursos le costaría una tarifa mensual, como lo haría con una suscripción a Netflix o Hulu, pero como titular de una tarjeta YPL puede acceder a ellos de forma gratuita; sólo necesita ingresar su código de barras de 14 dígitos y su PIN.
The Shelf es un servicio de streaming que ofrece entretenimiento multimedia en español de uso exclusivo para usuarios de bibliotecas públicas que tengan una tarjeta activa.
En The Shelf podrás encontrar todas las formas de entretenimiento que el mundo del streaming ofrece en la actualidad: Música, cine, series, teatro, ópera y videojuegos.
Para empezar a disfrutar de The Shelf con tu tarjeta de biblioteca activa, necesitas crear una cuenta nueva en la sección Iniciar Sesión.
Una vez comprobados los datos, recibirás un correo informándote de que tu cuenta ha sido activada. ¡Ya puedes acceder a theshelf.tv! Tienes que elegir tu biblioteca (Westchester Library System o Yonkers Public Library) cada vez que inicies sesión.
Para reproducir los contenidos de las secciones CINE y ARTES ESCÉNICAS se necesita el uso de TICKETS. La biblioteca proporcionará, sin costo alguno, 10 tickets que se usarán para reproducir los contenidos que lo requieran. Estos tickets se renovarán de forma automática cada mes.
Se podrán reproducir todos los demás contenidos de la plataforma de forma ilimitada.
LAS SECCIONES
En cada una de las secciones encontrarás banners con contenidos destacados y listas de reproducción con títulos agrupados por temáticas o géneros. Si pulsas el título de la lista o el botón VER LISTA COMPLETA podrás ver todos los títulos que componen la selección.
Estas son las diferentes secciones:
CINE: Películas, documentales y cortometrajes de todas las épocas y nacionalidades, especialmente seleccionados para ser disfrutados con la más alta calidad. Una selección de más de 500 títulos originales en español, doblados al español o en V.O. con subtítulos en español. Películas de México, Colombia, España, Argentina y, por supuesto, los clásicos de Hollywood.
SERIES: Más de 7000 episodios de series, miniseries y telenovelas de todos los tiempos se alojan en esta sección, que cada semana se actualiza con nuevos episodios.
ARTES ESCÉNICAS: Este espacio ofrece teatro, ópera, conciertos de música clásica y obras infantiles para los amantes de los escenarios más clásicos.
KIDS: The Shelf ofrece un espacio seguro con control parental donde encontrarás más de 4.300 episodios de series de animación y videojuegos de alto contenido educativo y formativo para los más pequeños.

You can find them all at ypl.org/resources. Normally it would cost you a monthly fee to access these resources, like you would for a Netflix or Hulu subscription, but as a YPL cardholder you can access them for free- you just need to enter your 14-digit barcode and PIN.
In this post we're featuring a new resource: The Shelf. The Shelf is a streaming service (like Netflix) that provides Spanish-language multimedia entertainment exclusively to patrons of public libraries with active library cards. On The Shelf, you can find all the forms of entertainment that the world of streaming offers today: music, movies, series, theater, opera and video games.
To start enjoying The Shelf with your YPL library card, you need to create a new account in the Login section. After your information is verified, you will receive an email stating that your account is active. You can now access theshelf.tv. You will need to type your library (either Westchester Library System or Yonkers Public Library) each time you log in.
Every YPL cardholder with an account gets 10 tickets a month. You need to use tickets to watch Movies and Performing Arts. Music and TV series don't require tickets.
THE SECTIONS
In each of the sections, you will find banners with highlighted content and playlists with titles grouped by themes or genres. If you click on the title of the list or the button VIEW FULL LIST, you will be able to see all the titles that make up the selection.
These are the different sections:
HOME: The home page contains a wide range of contents from all sections. In addition, the genre cloud (image) provides quick access to all most popular genres on The Shelf.
MOVIES: Movies, documentaries, and short films of all times and nationalities, specially curated to be enjoyed with the highest quality. A selection of more than 500 original titles in Spanish, dubbed in Spanish or in O.V. with Spanish subtitles. Movies from Mexico, Colombia, Spain, Argentina and of course, the Hollywood classics.
SERIES: More than 7000 episodes of series, miniseries, and soap operas from all times are hosted in this section, which is updated weekly with new episodes.
PERFORMING ARTS: Through partnerships with industry leaders Teatrix and MyOperaPlayer, The Shelf offers over 500 titles in this section from the most renowned stages in Latin America and Spain. The selection includes opera, flamenco, musicals, monologues, dance, classical music, and children's theater.
KIDS: The Shelf provides a safe, parent-controlled environment where you can find over 4,300 episodes of animated series and video games featuring highly educational and developmental content for children.
