This year’s top circulations have been broken down into four categories: Adults, Children, Young Adults, and Media. Did any of these picks make your list this year? Any surprising reads? If you haven’t checked out anything on this list, you can get all of these books, audiobooks, movies and games at Yonkers Public Library.
Adults
Fiction
Colleen Hoover remains as popular as ever, taking four of the top ten spots in top adult fiction circulations. Intense mysteries and thrillers are also popular from authors like James Patterson, Danielle Steel and John Grisham. Geraldine Brooks’s Horse is the only historical fiction novel to make the Top Ten this year.
Non-Fiction
History and politics are popular subjects for non-fiction readers. Memoirs were also popular, with Prince Harry’s “Spare” snagging the top spot and Jeffrey Rosen’s “Conversations with RBG” sitting in a tie for eighth. Other top circulations include books that help to empower ourselves, like “The 48 Laws of Power” and “The Creative Act: A Way of Being”, and “The Arthur Avenue Cookbook” empowers us to make something delicious in the kitchen!
Children
Fiction
When it comes to our young readers, Dav Pilkey and Jeff Kinney dominate. Pilkey’s Dog Man series and Cat Kid series snagged six of the top spots, and Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid took another three. J.K. Rowling is the only other author who made the list, with her long-time classic Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone sitting comfortably in second.
Non-Fiction
For nonfiction reads, young readers love learning about the world around them. Top topics included transportation, science, celebrities and history.
Young Adults
Fiction
When it comes to YA Fiction, there’s an undisputable connection between books that have been adapted into popular TV shows. Jenny Han’s “The Summer I Turned Pretty” is a hit on Amazon Prime, as is Alice Oseman’s “Heartstopper” on Netflix. Harry Potter also appears in the number two spot. Thrillers were a top pick as well from popular authors Holly Jackson and Karen McManus. Video games were also popular check-outs among young adults. If you didn’t already know, you can check out video games for most major video game consoles at all three branches of Yonkers Public Library!
Non-Fiction
When it comes to nonfiction reads for young adults, memoirs took many of the top spots. Plays were also popular, as well as self-help books about money management.
Media
Movies
The top movies this year were some of last year’s biggest hits like Tar with Cate Blanchett and Elvis with Austin Butler. Family favorites like Sonic the Hedgehog and Encanto were also popular.
Audiobooks
There were a mix of fiction and nonfiction audiobooks among the top check-outs this year. Thrillers made up many of the fiction selections, while history and self-help were popular among nonfiction audiobooks.
