Event Details
This chess class, aimed at children ages 8-12, provides new and experienced students with a strong foundation in the rules and strategies needed to play the game of chess through guided instruction and supervised play.
Students will learn fundamentals such as:
- How each piece moves.
- The point value of each piece.
- Check and Checkmate.
- The different outcomes of the the game. (i.e., win/lose/stalemate)
- The different phases of the game and their ensuing strategies (i.e., opening/middlegame/endgame)
- How to properly evaluate a position.
- How to formulate and implement a plan.
- How to visualize and conceptualize strategic ideas.
- How to identify a position's strengths and weaknesses.
