STEM/Technology

STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, and math. These four fields share an emphasis on innovation, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

Join iCAMP for some serious STEM fun!

Each week we’ll explore a different area of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) in a fun and creative ways!

*Registration required

Workshops are made possible through a grant from Con Edison.

Extreme Weather: Our Changing Climate Melting Glaciers
Students will learn about various ways that scientists know the climate is changing. They will understand what a glacier is, how it forms, why it melts due to rising temperatures, and the effects of melting glaciers on sea levels

Extreme Weather: Our Changing Climate: Air Pollution
Students will learn about the effects of air pollution and experiment to demonstrate how aerosols travel through air. With a partner they will understand how to protect themselves from the effects of polluted air.

Extreme Weather: Our Changing Climate: Building an Earthquake Resistant House
Students will explore how technology can save lives by building models of earthquake resistant houses and measure their movement during simulated earthquake using a sensor app

Extreme Weather: Our Changing Climate: Protecting Homes from Surge Activity
Students will build a model coastline and design a seawall to protect houses from waves as the sea level rises using the engineering design process

Extreme Weather: Our Changing Climate: Acid Rain
Students will learn about the impact that acid rain has on the environment and discover ways to combat it through science experiments
