Current Exhibition- Form and Abstraction: A Retrospective
With Carol Massa and Elisabeth Jacobsen
Form and Abstraction: A Retrospective features the work of two feminist visionaries whose work spans mediums from painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking and more. Their friendship has been a marker in both artist’s careers and is evidenced in the way their works fluidly weave throughout the gallery. Jacobsen creatively engineers found objects to tell stories of love and loss and to pursue social issues within her complex sculptures. Carol is a storyteller who uses vibrant color along with gesture to create canvases that seem to vibrate and dance with movement. Together, their work orchestrates a composition of freedom, social justice, reflection and revelation built on a relationship of mutual love and respect. Curated by Haifa Bint-Kadi
Opening Reception and Poetry Reading: Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 2-5pm
Exhibition Dates: April 5, 2025 - May 23, 2025

NEW Artist in Residence - RIDIKKULUZ
The Riverfront Art Gallery is proud to announce our NEW Artist in Residence, RIDIKKULUZ!
Ridikkuluz is a Palestinian-Egyptian-Jordanian multidisciplinary artist based in NYC. Their figurative work memorializes family, chosen family, and the self while investigating religious, decolonial, cultural, and queer themes. Ridikkuluz belongs to the ballroom community as a member of the Haus of Telfar.
Considering figurative portraiture’s colonial history, RIDIKKULUZ aims to decolonize the narrative by shining a light on unheard voices. As an artist, they use their autonomy & technical skill to memorialize their family, chosen family and their own self. Their multi-disciplinary practice is on the journey to total, unapologetic self-expression. They point out grief, friendship, and self-reflection mixed with conflicting themes of Queer Arab iconography. They intersect these layers to coexist harmoniously. Whether it be bridging the gap between the east and the west, the straights and the gays, or themselves and the world— RIDIKKULUZ investigates the human condition, the parts we play, and how identity evolves and hides.
Throughout this residency, RIDIKKULUZ will be teaching workshops such as abstract and figurative painting techniques, ballroom basics, and more! The public is also invited to come and observe the artist during their workshop hours and ask questions. This residency will culminate in a November group exhibition featuring artwork made by RIDIKKULUZ and other artists selected by the Artist and gallery Curator. The exhibition will highlight artwork which explores Arab Queer joy.

Upcoming Exhibition: Out, In
Image: Cynthia's Rugby Shirt by Elizabeth de Bethune
Elizabeth de Bethune transforms the ordinary moments of everyday life—whether shared with family, friends, or the Queer community in Yonkers—into vibrant, textural paintings that resonate with warmth and intimacy. Her keen observational skills and technical prowess enable her to craft representational images that feel both informal and deeply inviting, drawing viewers into her world.
Through her work, de Bethune captures the essence of daily life, imbuing each scene with a sense of familiarity and emotional depth. Her paintings serve as a testament to the beauty found in the mundane, offering a window into the lives and stories of those around her. Curated by Haifa Bint-Kadi.
Join us for the opening reception of Out, In on Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 6-8pm.
Exhibition run: May 31-June 30, 2025
